Fico Bologna

FICO Eataly World, Bologna

We dedicated this week-end to FICO, the largest agri-food park in the world, opened last year in the city of Bologna. We were curios to learn and know about this place so close to us since the newspapers were writing a lot about these two hectares of land reorganized with fields, stables, farming factories, typical restaurants and market points. We left Modena around 4 pm and reached FICO in half an hour. We parked the car just in front of the main entrance. The parking was free for the first two hours and € 1.50 per hour starting from the third hour. We didn’t pay any entry tickets to the park and we decided to explore it by walk.

Free bicycles and special train were available as well but as it was our first time, exploring it by foot seemed the best option: we could go around freely and feel the experience better. We were not sure what to expect before arriving at Fico but once there we could say that FICO wasn’t an amusement park but it was a cultural exhibition, a great place to do plenty of things: a place to learn, taste, discover and play, a place where adults and children could find something interesting to do. Factories, farms, restaurants, kiosk, market and shops gave a full idea about the Italian food and tradition.

Mini golf, volley ball and beach volley grounds were not missing. The farm section was the most wanted of the kids: nowadays they are not more used to see the animals and they got crazy seeing the cows, goats, pigs, rabbits and hens.  Parents visiting the park with children could decide to leave their kids at the nursery for the cost of €10 per hour before starting their tour. Courses and workshops on Italian food were available for extra charges. Wine section was obviously breath-taking. In case wanting to buy some items, the post office was located just after the counters so it was easy to send the shopping back home.

We have been staying admiring for more than 3 hours and it hasn’t been enough. We will stay longer next time and try to finish visiting the entire area.

Now, I can’t say that it is a must but surely it remains a place where meeting the Italian culture and cuisines. Touristic? Yes but it showcased perfectly the originality of Italy. We will go back.

  1. The place looks really homey. Given a chance, I surely enjoy working there. (I mean writing my blogs there). Place looks great to bring a date too.

    Thanks for sharing.
