Doors off helicopter tour in Modena.

Since Modena has come out as a tourist spot, more and more travellers are reserving their accommodation in Modena. Its pastel shade city centre, its excellent food, its countryside of rolling hills, and its reputation as a motor valley make this town a number one destination not only for the foodie travellers looking for food tours in Modena but to everyone heading to Italy.
That been said, it’s easy to notice how the city has changed over the last few years in order to welcome and entertain tourists. There are in fact numerous activities nowadays designed for tourists. Among the things to do in Modena there is the doors off helicopter tour. (Doors can be mounted upon request).
Now, flying above Modena may not sound as exciting as flying over the Thousand Islands in Canada or over the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan, but it is one of the best ways to appreciate the scenery of Modena and the cities of its Province. Yes, a helicopter tour is one of the top things to do in Modena.
“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”

Who is organizing Helicopter Tours in Modena.
There is only one company offering helicopter trips in Modena: Cà del Rio Resort. They do tailor-made, safe, unforgettable helicopter rides according to your needs. Cà del Rio Resort is located very close to the city centre of Modena, just a few (10) km away so it is easy to reach them by car. If you are travelling by public transportation in Italy, you can write them to get the directions. In our case, at the moment we live in a small town called Fiorano Modenese which is very close to the Cà del Rio Resort, but in the opposite direction of Modena.
Modena by Helicopter experience is open to everyone, from 7 years of age (the helicopter needs to be properly balanced for weight, I think the maximum weight of the participant is 100 kg).
Know that Modena doesn’t have big airports around so helicopter flights can be arranged at any time. If you want to travel to another city from Modena, then you must check with the Cà del Rio Resort to find out the air traffic and the prices.

From take-off to Landing.
Once you sit in the helicopter, the pilot will help you with your seat belt and headphone. He will give some quick information on all that is needed for a safe flight. As we flew over Modena we had two-way headphones which allowed me to talk to the pilot, Marco Pugliese, and hear his commentary. Since the helicopter has no door you are asked to leave behind anything that can fall down because you can never get it back. I took my camera and OP with me and held onto them with a firm grip.
In the beginning, I was a bit afraid when the pilot did some turns but then I tried to be brave, saying to myself that if nobody has fallen yet I’m not going to be the first. After the first turn, when the piolt heard me screaming, he asked me if I wanted to turn back. At that point, we were on our second turn and I was already used to it.
Weather plays an important role on the Helicopter tour. Thankfully, that day was sunny and warm so the ride was smoother than I had expected and the wind wasn’t too bothersome. Keep in mind that your booking could be cancelled in case of rain, strong wind, or a thunderstorm.
Cost and duration of the Helicopter Tour in Modena.
Depending on the package you buy, the Helicopter tour above Modena can last from 10 to 30 minutes. I took the one where the entire take-off and landing experience lasted about 20 minutes. Depending on the package you choose, prices are from € 60.00 to 250 if you remain in the area of Modena. If you want to fly out of the city, you should check the details with the Cà del Rio Resort.
What did we see during the flight.
Cà del Rio Resort is a bit off the beaten path and as we took off we flew over the countryside of Modena before reaching the city. In my case, I chose the package for Formigine town, the Ferrari test track in Fiorano Modenese and the city centre of Modena.
I flew over the city centre of Modena, and this is something that I highly recommend that you do because it is 100% worth it.

What I most liked about the doors off helicopter tour in Modena.
One of the advantages of the doors off helicopter tour is that if you have a good camera you can take good quality photos without having to deal with the reflections when shooting through the glass. A doors off helicopter offers plenty of amazing photo opportunities. If you are someone like me who always has photography in mind, then you will really love this trip. Pay attention when leaning the camera out beyond the doors because the wind is strong and it could make things fall down easily.
What I most disliked about the doors off helicopter tour in Modena.
The thing that troubled me about my experience in Modena on the doors off helicopter is that they only seat one passenger plus the pilot. I would have loved to try it with Alessandro but that was not possible. We could only fly one at a time. However, Cà del Rio Resort is already planning to invest in the implementation of this service so, in case, just write an e- mail to them and ask in advance.
Helicopter flying lessons in Modena.
If you stay in Modena longer, then you can even learn to fly a helicopter. Oh yes, Cà del Rio Resort also gives flying lessons and all of their helicopter flight training courses are held by the Pilot Marco Pugliese. They offer lessons during a 20-minute flight around the local area. I’d love to do this! Maybe this is something that I will consider for the future.
My quick opinion on The Helicopter Tour in Modena
I always had the idea that helicopters are for thrill-seekers and I was definitely wrong. It is for everyone who wants to soar above the city. Since it flies lower and slower than an airplane, it is a great way to enjoy the view from above. I saw my city like never before. A helicopter ride is a magical way to see the world. I cannot help but recommend it for your visit to Modena. It is going to be the “thrill” of your lifetime.

I’ve only been in a helicopter once .. and that was in a 5 seater over Iguazu falls in Brazil. It was an amazing experience, but I’m glad that our helicopter had doors. Your one is a lot smaller, and the no-doors is a bit of a surprise, but at least you can take great photos without having to take them through the glass.

I just adore fun adventures like this and seeing a new place from the sky is almost as wonderful as seeing it from the sea! Having no doors just adds to the fun adventure and to the excitement of the experience! How COOL!

I thought the same as you – that helicopters were adrenaline racing and thrill seeking – but when I went on one, it was peaceful and an amazing view! I recommend it to anyone who likes getting a new view of the place your visiting!

Door off helicopters sounds scary and not sure if I will do this ride. I does seem fun though to see the city from above :). A great resource for those who want to take a helicopter ride.

It looks spectacular. However, while we managed to get Chuck into a helicopter in Alaska flying up to a glacier… not sure we’d get him in there with no doors.
