Visit Malta

Situated in the Mediterranean Sea, between Sicily and the North African coast, Malta is a destination you might want to consider for your next trip.

Malta is one of the smallest countries in Europe, covering only 316 km². But still, it is full of history, culture, tradition, and nature. This European destination, although indeed small in size, offers a large number of things to do and see for everyone and for every age.

Whether you’re planning a city break, a foodie weekend, a romantic escape, sun-and-sea seclusion, party nights, or simply a relaxing time with family, Malta has it all.

In this post, I’m going to tell you why you should visit Malta at least once in your lifetime.

Malta is well connected.

Reaching Malta is very easy and very cheap. Obviously by plane is the quickest way, but you can also travel to Malta by cruise ship. In my case I flew from Bologna to Malta on a Ryanair low-cost flight. I spent only 16 Euros roundtrip. Yes, it is not a mistake. I spent only 16 Euros. If you are in Italy, then you can also check out ferry lines.

Malta is safe to visit.

Malta is safe to visit. I never felt danger, even during the nighttime. On the contrary, people on the street gave me the impression of being quiet. Moreover, the fact that there are many elderly groups everywhere gave me a sense of security.

History reigns in Malta.

With over 7,000 years of history, Malta is known for its succession of rulers including the Romans, Phoenicians, Arabs, Greeks, French, British, and the Knights of Saint John. Due to its strategic position, Malta played an important role in the history of the domination of the Mediterranean area. From Roman catacombs to the Baroque interiors and secret World War Two headquarters, there is certainly no shortage of historical monuments to visit in Malta. It is truly a historical paradise. Among them St. John’s cathedral in Valletta is not to be missed.

Malta offers mild temperatures.

Malta has some of the best weather in all of Europe. Spring and summer probably are the best time to visit Malta but know that even in the winter, Malta offers mild temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius and it is one of the destinations with the highest percentages of winter sunny days. In a few words Malta is an year round holiday destination.

English is an official language in Malta.

Even though Maltese is a Semitic language combining English, Arabic, and Italian, English is an official language in Malta and it is widely spoken. That fact should not be underestimated. Makes things easier, right?

Malta offers good food.

The Maltese cuisine is a result of the succession of colonizers, who occupied the islands over the centuries. Malta indeed offers a mixture of different culinary dishes which can satisfy any palate. Trust me, it is true. Coming from me, this can only be the truth. I’m very difficult with food. I mean I like to eat well and I hardly settle for any given dish.

For me this reason is enough to visit Malta again and again.

Malta has good wine.

We never hear about it, but Malta produces some medal winning wines of distinct body and flavour. Among the international grape varieties grown on the islands are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Carignan, Chenin Blanc, and Moscato. Going for a wine tasting in Malta is certainly one of the best things to do in the country.

For me this is also a good reason to visit Malta again and again.

Malta’s beaches and sunsets.

The Mediterranean Sea has always had its charm. And this combined with the mild temperatures makes the Maltese beaches even more attractive. During the summer you can go swimming until 9 pm since the water remains warm until the late hours. In additional to this, whatever time of the year you are visiting, some of the Malta’s coastline offer spectacular sunsets.

Malta is not expensive.

So if you ask how expensive Malta is, I would say that compared to other western European countries, Malta is not so expensive. I mean, if you are on a budget you can easily find cheap hotels around € 30.00 per night and eat well spending only 10 Euros.

One more reason to visit Malta.

If you need one more reason to visit Malta, then here it is! Did you know they also have a great selection of breweries here? The most popular beer in Malta is CISK LAGER and it is consumed widely across the island, but there are so many other award-winning breweries with a unique line-up of beers with ingredients that are not often used. There are places that have a variety of local craft beers to choose from.

With tourism numbers growing exponentially every year, it’s time to visit Malta now! It is ideal for both short breaks and long-term vacations. I stayed only 4 days in Malta and a plan to visit this island again is already in the works.

Pay attention. Malta could be addictive.
