Braies Lake

Simply Amazing Braies Lake

Pragser Wildsee

One of other discovery of Facebook!! I came to know through a friend of mine who one day shared some wonderful photos of Braies Lake which have convinced me to say I must go there one day! Since that day I didn’t stop talking about this place to my boyfriend who gifted me three days there for my last birthday. The weather forecast did not promise good that day but since we had already booked and paid months back, changing the dates was no longer possible. So, with a little hope in our hearts, we tried to reach the lake anyway. Thankfully, contrary to what we were expecting the weather was perfect that day. The scenery of the mountains mixed in with the small towns along the route was impressive. There were easy parking areas close by. We parked our car in the P2 parking area. It was € 6.00 for the whole day and € 4.00 after 4 pm. They closed at 6 pm. We don’t know the price for the P1 parking which is closer and probably more expensive than the P2 but they both were one next to each other that spending more didn’t mean saving time or distance. When we got out of the car we could only see the surrounding mountains and a big hotel. We had to pass next to the hotel and reach its back to see the magnificent lake. Slowly the stunning view opened to our eyes.

Braies Lake

That romantic wooden house and the emerald coloured water surrounded by the Alps were definitely the most and gorgeous sites I’ve visited; the reflection of the mountains on the water made it even more majestic.  That fantastic landscape and the beautiful breath of fresh air, the clarity of the water, the cleanness and the boats which seemed like they were floating in the air appeared to my eyes something so magical. It seemed like being inside one of those fairytales told patiently by my father when I was a child. You guys are wondering what is Braies Lake???

Braies Lake

Moving towards the rear, I just want to describe you very briefly that Braies Lake or Prags Lake (Pragser Wildsee in the German language) is nothing than a lake in the in South Tyrol, Italy. It belongs to the municipality of Prague which is located in the Prags valley. It has become famous after the telenovelas “A step from Heaven” where Terence Hill lived right in that wooden stilt house where they now rent boats for tourists. Is that was the only one reason which made the lake so famous? I don’t think so, there is something more that makes this place so unique.

Lago di Braies

There is a path around the lake which could be a little bit challenging during the winter season but even though we highly recommend you to put on your rougher shoes and walk around this wonderful gem! Some parts of the trail are uphill and down but I saw people doing it without any big problems. We really enjoyed the stunning views, the different nature types along the way and the cold beer in the valleys. It took us around 4 hours to finish the walk around the lake, without counting the detour for lunch.

Braies Lake

One half of the lake, the chapel side one, is feasible with the bicycle but the other one is not so, in case you want to see all around you better take a walk. In the end, we didn’t want to miss the boat trip. We went for half an hour tour which in our opinion was not enough. We should have gone for the one hour trip. The prices were not expensive: the entire boat was € 15.00 for 30 minutes and € 25.00 for an hour. We just left the deposit of € 25.00 before starting to row and at the end, upon arrival, the owed amount was deducted from the deposit.

I heard that starting from this year there will be a Christmas Market by the lake during the first 3 weekends of December. It sounded so interesting to my ears. Probably I'm not going to miss it! Click here to check out more about the Christmas market.
